The famous South Indian gunpowder chutney (or Milagai Podi) is spicy hot–hence the name! It is the dry red chillies that create the heat. Along with the red chillies, urad dal and chana dal are roasted and powdered. This Podi is for all spicy food lovers. While it is traditionally enjoyed with idlis, dosas or uttapams and sambar, you can actually eat it with anything. Sprinkle gunpowder chutney on the top of a dish to add zing and heat!
Health benefits:
Urad dal and Chana dal help to keep diabetes at bay by providing
excellent insulin regulation and are good for your heart health. Urad dal is high in
folic acid and helps in various metabolic processes. Chana dal is a rich source of
protein, fibre and lowers blood pressure.
How to use:
1. Heat a teaspoon of ghee and add it to a teaspoon of idli podi.
2. Make a paste according to your requirement.
3. Spread it on the dosas, idlis or uttapams.
You can add curd to the podi and have it with Rotis or Chapatis or add it to the ghee
rice. You are sure to get addicted to this spicy podi.
