Have a craving for spicy food? Our favourite, Andhra Nalla Karam, will add spice to your meals. Nalla Karam means Black Powder. Nalla Karam Podi is almost black, hence the name. The colour comes from the black gram dal (urad dal) with skin and roasted curry leaves, while the Karam (spicy) comes from spicy red chillies. This podi also has powdered coriander seeds and tamarind.
This special podi finds its roots in an ancestral village in Andhra Pradesh.
Health benefits :
Black gram dal boosts bone density. It is also high in fibre and hence helps with digestion. It keeps constipation, cramps and bloating at bay. Coriander seeds promote brain health and help in fighting Alzheimer’s disease. They also help to lower blood sugar levels and have antioxidants.
How to use:
Like any other podi, add ghee to the podi to make a paste and have it along with idlis, dosas or uttapams. You can add it to the ghee rice to take the taste to the next level.

I love the versatility of these Podi and papads. They can be used as a seasoning or enjoyed as a standalone snack.

The Podis of Symaxfoods are reasonably priced, considering the excellent quality. It’s great value for money.”
